Ruth wrote a blog about 12 days ago putting out a call for knitted Scarves for Africa.  My Charity Knitting needed a kick along if I am to make 12 garments by the end of the year so I eagerly joined in and I have finished my first scarf:

Diamond Scarf

Diamond Scarf

Pattern: My own based on stitch sample in Reader’s Digest Complete Guide to Needlecraft (1990)
Yarn: 8ply Bendigo Woollen Mill ?Classic from Mum’s Stash – not sure how much – bottle green
Needles: 4.5mm circular
Project started: 12 November 2008
Project completed: 22 November 2008

Notes: I cast on 250 stitches and knit in a diamond pattern as follows:

Row 1 – *K9, P1* repeat to end
Rows 2 & 8 – K2, *P7, K3* repeat to last 8 stitches, P7, K1
Rows 3 & 7 – P2, *K5, P5* repeat to last 8 stitches, K5,P3
Rows 4 & 6 – K4, *P3, K7* repeat to last 6 stitches, P3, K3
Row 5 – P4, *K1, P9* repeat to last 6 stitches, K1, P5

These 8 rows form the pattern and I did 4 repeats to give rough unblocked measurements of 130cm (51in) x 11cm (4 1/4in).  I added tassels – which I am not too sure about but they are easily removed if they are not liked.

So that is now a mere 5/12 items completed….better get knitting! 🙂
